Show Don't Tell: Making it Real with Sensory Details

WELCOME!
We are delighted you’d like to join us at the Show Don’t Tell Retreat with Linda Epstein and Lisa Burdige being held on the campus of the Highlights Foundation! Your retreat will include delicious, locally sourced meals prepared daily, with snacks and beverages always available. In addition to the learning sessions there will be ample time to write, as well as opportunities for walking, hiking, bird watching, and connecting with other participants.
REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
Payment is due in full before the program begins. Upon completing registration, participants will receive an email confirmation with links to useful information for planning the trip here. About 30 days before the retreat starts participants will receive an update about arrival on campus, their room number, and the Wi-fi password.
Please note when you register that there is an option to add on a 10-page manuscript assessment, for an additional fee. More information below.
LODGING
Classes and presentations for the Show Don’t Tell retreat will be held in the Great Room at the Lodge, where participants will also be staying. All rooms come with a writing desk and private bathroom and there is free on site parking.
ROOM SHARING
If you wish to sign up with a roommate, one of you should register, click on the photo of the Lodge, where you’ll find a dropdown menu and you can change the quantity from 1 to 2. It will ask you to list your roommate’s name and email. We will then make sure you are both billed separately, and your rate will be discounted approximately $172.50 each person.
CHECK IN
Check in is any time after 3pm on arrival day. If you arrive prior to 3pm, you are welcome to enjoy the grounds and various work and gathering places around the facility while your room is being prepared. The first meal on campus will be appetizers at 5:30 with dinner following at 6:00. If you plan to arrive late please let us know and we can save dinner for you.
The final day of your stay includes lunch, but we ask that you check out of your lodging by 11am. You are welcome to leave your packed bags by the door of your room while you enjoy lunch and say your goodbyes. Housekeeping may enter your room during this period to begin cleaning and prepping for our next guests.
TRAVEL

MANUSCRIPT ASSESSMENT ADD-ON
You can add on a 10-page manuscript assessment to your retreat, which you will get back before the retreat begins. Manuscripts must be submitted before June 1st. You will receive a 1-page assessment (and margin notes if applicable) with feedback about big-picture elements of the first 10-pages of your work-in-progress. What’s working? What needs attention? A half-hour Zoom follow up for Q&A is also included. The first 10-pages of your manuscript should be formatted in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, double spaced, with 1” margins (up to 2,500 words) in a Word document, and emailed to thelindaepstein@gmail.com before the June 1st deadline.
