July 3 - 6, 2025

  • Program Price and Single Occupancy Lodging – $1,399.00
WELCOME!

We are delighted you’d like to join us at the Highlights Foundation Retreat Center for the Show Don’t Tell Retreat! We’re looking forward to teaching the classroom parts of the retreat and especially can’t wait to lead the experiential exercises. There’s also going to be ample time for you to write, and opportunities for walking, hiking, bird watching, and connecting with other participants, if you’d like. The meals are delicious and locally sourced, with snacks and beverages always available.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
Please note when you register that there is also an option to add on a 10-page manuscript assessment, for an additional fee. Information about that is below.

Payment is due in full before the program begins. After you’re registered, you’ll get an email confirmation with more information to help you plan your trip. As we get closer to the retreat date you’ll get an update about arrival on campus, with things like your room number, the Wi-fi password, etcetera.

LODGING
Participants will be staying in the Lodge, where the classroom sessions are also being held. All rooms come with a writing desk and private bathroom and there is free on-site parking.

If you would like to sign up with a roommate, your rate will be discounted by $172.50 each. One person should register, click on the photo of the Lodge, and change the quantity from 1 to 2 in the dropdown menu. You will be asked to list your roommate’s name and email address, and they will be billed separately.

MANUSCRIPT ASSESSMENT ADD-ON
You can add on a first 10 page assessment of your manuscript for an additional $400 (a 20% discount from the usual price). Before the retreat starts you’ll get a 1-page assessment (with margin notes if applicable) that has feedback about big-picture elements. What’s working? What needs attention? You also get a half-hour Zoom follow up for Q&A, which also will be beforehand so you can maximize your time at the retreat. Manuscripts need to be submitted before June 1st. Manuscripts should be in a Word document, formatted in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, double spaced, with 1” margins (up to 2,500 words) in a Word document, and emailed to thelindaepstein@gmail.com before the June 1st deadline.

CHECK IN
Check in is any time after 3pm on arrival day. If you arrive prior to 3pm, you are welcome to enjoy the grounds and various work and gathering places around the facility while your room is being prepared. We gather at 5:30 for welcome drinks and appetizers with dinner following at 6:00. If you plan to arrive late please let us know and we can have dinner saved for you.

The final day of your stay includes lunch, but we ask that you check out of your lodging by 11am. You are welcome to leave your packed bags by the door of your room while you enjoy lunch and say your goodbyes.

The Highlights Foundation is close to area airports and bus stations and there is free parking on site. For more about planning your travel please go to the Getting Here page).
