Illustration Intensive 2017
September 7 - 10, 2017
Immerse yourself in illustration techniques and gain tools for storytelling.
Illustrators come to narration through a different door than writers, and although we are also storytellers, we don’t always get to the end product in the same way. In today’s picture book environment, we could all use a little extra help. Let our mentors be your guides. Explore the children’s book market with them, learn new techniques, and enjoy the camaraderie of artists who understand your passion.
The sessions you’ll find in this workshop will help demystify the process and give aspiring illustrators and storytellers tools and insight into how to find and advance ideas through play, doodling, book dummies, character development, and more.
Daily hands-on activities will challenge you to sharpen your illustration skills, all under the support and guidance of our talented mentors.
In addition to illustration techniques, you’ll also explore:
- Dummy preparation
- Storyboarding
- Continuity
- Portfolio expectations
- Character development
- Self-promotion
- Finding a market
Your work will receive personal attention through one-on-one critiques from your mentors, group critiques with peers and publishing professionals, and feedback from special guests at our portfolio showcase.
