WHY THIS WORKSHOP?

A good picture book involves a successful collaboration between text and art. What if you aren’t both author and illustrator? How do you convince a publisher that your manuscript will make for a successful collaboration with an artist?

I bet you’ve asked yourself: Should I include art notes? (You’re not alone!)

This mini course will teach techniques to make your manuscript paint pictures with your text. We’ll discuss what details to cut and what to leave in, how to respectfully use illustration notes, and how to build the muscle memory of writing in pictures (even if you don’t actually draw pictures.)

This program is a great fit if you’re looking for something short, sweet, and smart! This is not a full workshop, instead it hosts two, 75-minute sessions offering limited interaction with loads of information.

TENTATIVE AGENDA:

Tuesday, December 7, 7pm – 8:15pm Eastern

FROM OUR COMMUNITY:

Faculty testimonial
“They were well-prepared and provided us with a lot to think about. I have an MFA and have studied PB writing extensively, yet their material was new to me. Thank you.”

“Sudipta and Leeza are knowledgeable, engaging and effective presenters. Their friendly repartee, ample visual slides to illustrate course content, and overall experiential base made this mini-course a valuable, if brief, time.”

“Learning how an illustrator may approach a picture book manuscript was eye opening. This was an excellent topic. I would recommend it to all picture book authors.”

“Both the presenters were coordinated. They knew their material. Gave the audience a completely different perspective. All writers know that we need to provide opportunities for illustration. The presenters taught us how to do that.”
